Čím více se koukám kolem sebe, tím víc vidím, že po nás tady toho moc nezbylo. Více než půl tisíce let byl tento kraj naším domovem, snad jsme je úplně nepromarnili. Já vím, že ne vždy jsme byli vzor ctností, ale snad si nezasloužíme, aby se na náš rod úplně zapomnělo. Pokusím se svými vzpomínkami něco zachovat, něco se snad ukrývá v písemnostech. Pokud by někdo něco o našem rodu věděl, nebo má na něj nějakou památku, budu rád, když se o to podělí s ostatními.
Sám si nemám na co stěžovat, na rozdíl od mnoha mých předků, mé ostatky alespoň klidně odpočívají na rossbašském hřbitově. Mnozí Zedtwitzové toto štěstí neměli a jejich ostatky klidu nenalezly. Jejich pietní místa byla vyrabována, vyrostly na nich tenisové kurty, ba i silnice, nebo zanikly díky velkému požáru. Do začátku bych si moc přál, nechte nás odpočívat v pokoji, a tam kde se dochovalo nemnoho z toho, co nás připomíná, ráčejte prosím zachovati.
Nechci ale vzpomínat pouze na nás Zedtwitze, ale i na naše sousedy. Mnoho z nich bylo velmi podnikavých, ba v nových časech i mnohem úspěšnějších než my, svázaní feudálním myšlením. Možná jsme se kdysi s nimi škorpili, ale musím uznat, že si své místo na výsluní více než zasloužili a pro své městyse mnohé udělali. Zavzpomínejme na ně též.
